If Reports to be believed, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Indian National Congress (INC) are negotiating on a midway to make an alliance in a run-up to the General Elections 2019. Sources revealed that backroom talks have been taken place senior leaders recently in a bid to forge an alliance, though none of them have said anything officially about the same. Sources told PTI that a senior party leader and member of the AAP’s apex decision-making body was leading the talks from Aam Aadmi Party’s side.

Those familiar with the development said that AAP has approached the Congress with 4:3 formula after its 5:2 formula got rejected for Delhi 7 Lok Sabha Elections. Apart from Delhi, both parties are also in talks to make an alliance in Haryana and Punjab.

Earlier, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had claimed that voting for the Congress was “akin to voting for the BJP.”  In August, the AAP had boycotted the poll for election deputy chairperson in Rajya Sabha, after the Congress did not seek their support for the joint opposition candidate fielded by it.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party has already fielded its in-charges on Six Seats out of seven seats in Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal in his recent comment hinted towards an alliance, he said as quoted by many news agencies, “I believe the team of Amit Shah-ji and Narendra Modi-ji is dangerous for the country’s present and future. If they come to power in 2019, they will not even spare the country’s Constitution. If they change the Constitution, nothing would be left. So it is the responsibility of every patriotic citizen of the country to defeat the team and to do that, we will take all the measures that we can”. Kejriwal’s change in stance on alliances is significant, coming after his maiden attendance at a key meeting of the opposition last week.

According to sources, the Delhi leadership of Congress was not to keen to tie up with Aam Aadmi Party. However, the top leadership of the party was apparently open to the idea of an alliance with the Kejriwal-led party. Last month, Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal were on the same stage for the first time as opposition leaders attended a massive farmers’ protest in Delhi.
