Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant Full Statehood Status to Delhi, an issue that Aam Aadmi Party is expected to raise in a run-up to the Lok Sabha Polls 2019.

Responding to the PM Narendra Modi’s greetings to the people of Arunachal Pradesh on their Statehood Day on Twitter, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, Sir, Delhi is also waiting for its statehood day. You had promised to the people of Delhi that you wud grant full statehood to Delhi. Kindly do it, sir. People of Delhi have faced injustice for 70 years now.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday said it will hold a door-to-door campaign to tell people how the BJP had done them “injustice” on the issue. According to its strategy for the general election, the AAP will distribute the BJP‘s manifestoes for previous elections, including that of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, in which, it said, the saffron party had supported the demand for full statehood to Delhi.

“We will go door-to-door, telling people how the BJP has done them injustice on the issue of full statehood,” Delhi AAP convener Gopal Rai said on Tuesday.

Earlier During his visit to Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy who was on Dharna against Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, Delhi CM Kejriwal alleged that the situations in the two union territories are the same.

Visited Puducherry CM @VNarayanasami to express solidarity wid the people of Puducherry. @VNarayanasami is fighting against a dictatorship of Puducherry’s LG. UT status to Del n Puducherry is an injustice to their people. We will fight together for full statehood’ Delhi Chief Minister tweeted after his meeting with Puducherry CM.

We will demand that both Delhi and Puducherry be made full (fledged) states. There is no reason why people of these states should be discriminated against,” he said

However, The BJP’s Delhi unit termed the campaign as a “new drama” by the AAP and its chief Arvind Kejriwal.

Delhi Leader of Opposition and BJP Leader Vijender Gupta took to Twitter to Attack AAP chief. He said in a tweet, ‘Aam Aadami Party is flogging a dead horse in its demand for full Statehood for Delhi in its run upto the General Elections. People of Delhi have already rejected CM @ArvindKejriwal’s repeated attempts to misguide them on this issue’.

Recently, in a major setback to the AAP government in Delhi, two judges of the Supreme Court agreed that the Centre should have the final word on posting and transfer of bureaucrats in the national capital administration, but their disagreement on finer details resulted in a split verdict and the matter got referred to a larger bench of the Top Court.
