Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) is facing a rough patch these days as another prominent leader has submitted his resignation from the party. Ashish Khetan, an investigative journalist has quit the party, just a week after AAP founding member Ashutosh submitted his resignation, reported PTI.

Khetan used Twitter to confirm the news, saying he is “not involved in active politics at the moment” and does not want to get involved in “rumours”.

According to the party sources PTI quoted, Khetan had sent his resignation the same day to AAP president Arvind Kejriwal as Ashutosh announced his resignation on i.e. 15 August. Ashutosh had cited a “very, very personal reason” for his resignation.

PTI quoted sources as saying that AAP chief has yet to accept both the resignations.

NDTV quoted Khetan’s Facebook post, where he wrote, “For the past two years, I have been plagued with self-doubt and the question of whether I wanted to continue in electoral politics. Early this year I made my decision to quit active politics after much deliberation and in consultation with family and close friends.”

Khetan was the vice chairman of the Delhi Dialogue and Development Commission(DDC)– an advisory body of the Delhi government from which he had resigned in April. He tweeted, “I had resigned from DDC in April, to join the legal profession. That is all. Not interested in rumours.” He added, “I am completely focused on my legal practice and not involved in active politics at the moment. Rest is all extrapolation.”

Khetan also said that his “personal decision” to leave the party and step away from active politics should not be seen as a ‘reflection on AAP’, NDTV reported.

According to PTI report, sources apprised that Khetan wanted to fight 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the same seat in Delhi where he was defeated by BJP’s Meenakshi Lekhi in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. However, the top leaders were reluctant, which disgruntled Khetan.

The Wire reported, that the main reason behind many senior leaders quitting the party was that they were upset due to AAP’s Rajya Sabha nominations. The senior leaders were displeased with Kejriwal’s decision to nominate Delhi-based businessman Sushil Gupta and chartered accountant N D Gupta along with the senior leader Sanjay Singh for the Rajya Sabha seats, reported PTI.
