As the major political players – SP and BSP – announced its alliance for the Lok Sabha 2019 Polls on Saturday, Aam Aadmi Party also packed a fresh deal of alliance with Apna Dal (Krishna Patel) in the state on Saturday. Lok Sabha Polls 2019: Congress gears up for ‘solo’ contest in Uttar Pradesh

AAP Senior Leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Saturday announced the development and said the alliance has been agreed upon in principle and that seat-sharing talks were underway. He added ‘We have decided to contest all seats in the state in upcoming Lok Sabha Polls‘.

Speaking about the alliance AAP State Spokesperson Vaibhav Maheshwari said, “talks had been going on for a long time with Apna Dal (Krishna Patel) and that the ideology of zero corruption and secularism had brought the two parties together.”

‘Both AAP and Apna Dal(Krishna Patel) are against corruption and communal forces’ Maheshwari added.

Apna Dal (Krishna Patel) is the faction of the party led by its founder Sone Lal Patel’s widow. The other is Apna Dal (Sonelal) led by Anupriya Patel, who is a Minister of State in the Modi government and an ally of BJP led NDA.

Sonelal Patel was a staunch and popular leader of ‘Kurmi’ community in the state. He died in a Road Accident in 2009. The Apna Dal was later divided into segments among his widow and his elder daughter Anupriya Patel. Apna Dal (S) led by Anupriya Patel later tied up with BJP in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.

Apna Dal (S) has been sparring with the BJP of late, accusing the saffron party of ignoring the small parties in the alliance. UP allies hit out at NDA for being ignored, Apna Dal and SBSP threaten to desert coalition

In another development, AAP Sanjay Singh on Sunday clarified that Arvind Kejriwal will not contest from Varanasi this time. ‘Kejriwal will not contest the Lok Sabha polls, as he wants to give special focus to his state. The AAP will contest on all the Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Goa’ Singh told PTI.
