The Pune Police on Saturday early morning arrested activist Anand Teltumbde who is an accused in Bhima-Koregaon Case. As per the reports, Teltumbde was accosted and then arrested from the domestic terminal of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport around 3.30 a.m. by the police team waiting for him. They whisked him off to Pune.

The accused activist is likely to be produced before a court later in the day.

Earlier on February 01, the Pune Sessions Court rejected the anticipatory bail plea filed by the accused activist. The judge asserted that the Investigation Officer has collected sufficient against the accused. The investigation was at a crucial stage and custodial interrogation of the accused was necessary, the court held.

The prosecution on Thursday had submitted an envelope containing “evidence”, claiming that it proves Mr Teltumbde’s involvement in Maoist activities.

Teltumbde had moved to Pune Sessions Court after Supreme Court had on January 14 refused to quash Pune Police’s FIR against civil rights activist Anand Teltumbde for his alleged role in the Elgar Parishad-Koregaon Bhima violence and for his alleged Maoist links. The apex court also refused to interfere with the ongoing investigation in the case.

However, Left Activities and Cadre had alleged that action is ‘illegal’ as Top Court had granted him protection till February 14. Reportedly, The Top Court Bench comprising CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Ashok Bhushan and SK Kaul that refused to quash FIR had however extended the interim protection from arrest granted to him by the Bombay High Court by four weeks, reportedly.

Pune Police in November last year has filed it 5,160-page charge sheet against 10 people in special UAPA Court. Of the ten charge-sheeted, five activists – Sudhir Dhawale, Rona Wilson, Surendra Gadling, Shoma Sen, and Mahesh Raut, were arrested on June 6 last year in connection with the violence during Elgar Parishad.

The Charge sheet stated that the ‘Entire Campaign for Elgar Parishad and the Speeches Delivered at Elgar Parishad aggravated the Violence. Police during the course of Investigation has examined over 80 witnesses.

Pune Police had in December registered a fresh FIR against five more accused, making it total 33 FIR till now in connection with Bhima Koregaon Violence Case.

The Violence erupted at the 200-anniversary Celebrations of Bhima Koregaon on January 1, last year.
