Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi will visit his erstwhile Lok Sabha constituency Amethi on July 10. The announcement comes days after Rahul Gandhi officially step down from Congress President Post saying that he is responsible for the loss of the 2019 elections.

He added that accountability is critical for the future growth of our party. ‘It is for this reason that I have resigned as Congress president’, said Gandhi in his four-page resignation letter.

This will Rahul Gandhi’s first visit to Amethi, almost two months after it faced a crushing defeat in the national polls from Gandhi families stronghold Amethi.

While days after Congress President lost to BJP Leader Smriti Irani, Party has tasked Kishore Lal Verma and Zubair Khan to deliberate upon the reasons poll debacle in Amethi.

Both the Leaders are the part of the review team who been tasked to hold meetings with Block Pramukhs and Heads of Panchayats.

Rahul Gandhi won the Lok Sabha Polls with a heavy margin of over 4.30 Lakh votes from Wayanad Lok Sabha Seat. He defeated his opponent PP Sunner of CPI-M in the recently held national polls. However, Gandhi lost its stronghold Amethi by 55,000 votes by BJP‘s Smriti Irani.

Rahul Gandhi has entered the Lok Sabha for the First time in 2004 contesting from  Amethi Lok Sabha Seat. Amethi in the past has been represented by Sonia Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and Sanjay Gandhi. Barring 1977, and 1998, Amethi before 2019 had always elected a Congress Nominee.
