As per the order given by party chief V K Sasikala, who is currently in jail, AIADMK (Amma) faction announced the support to the NDA chosen candidate Ram Nath Kovind for the presidential elections due on 17 July.

The term of the present President Pranab Mukherjee ends on 24 July. The elections for the next President of India will be held on 17 July and the results will be declared by 20 July. The last date to file the nomination for the elections is 28 June. NDA has announced former Bihar governor, a dalit leader, Ram Nath Kovind as their candidate and opposition parties have contested Meira Kumar, also a dalit leader against NDA candidate.

Many parties including the Biju Janta Dal party from Odisha, Telangana Rashtra Samithi from Telangana, Telugu Desam Party from Andhra Pradesh, Lok Janshakti Party, Yogi-led BJP from Uttar Pradesh, Nitish Kumar from Bihar and Shiv Sena are supporting the NDA candidate.
AIADMK (Amma) faction leader T T V Dhinakaran said that MPs from the Amma faction, besides MLAs in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and alliance party MLAs will vote for Ram Nath Kovind.
The AIADMK has a total of 49 MPs, including 37 in Lok Sabha ans in the Tamil Nadu Assembly it holds 135 seats.
In the 234-member state Assembly, the Amma faction has 122 MLAs while the Puratchi Thalaivi Amma camp led by Panneerselvam has 12 legislators.
