AIADMK has expelled 46 office-bearers from the party’s Krishnagiri district unit. The reason for their expulsion was that they had brought disrepute to the party. The office-bearers were expelled on 14th February 2018.

The announcement was made by Mr. Panneerselvam, the AIADMK coordinator and Mr. Palaniswami the co-coordinator of the party. The 46 officials were allegedly removed from their posts because they were, “acting in contravention to the party’s policies and ideals.” They would be expelled from their present posts. Following which, the workers of AIADMK were warned against any association with the expelled members.

The party has expelled more than 250 members of the party since TTV Dhinakaran’s victory. He won in the RK Nagar by-election in December 2017. Those expelled were accused of being Dhinakaran loyalists. The expelled workers belong to districts of Kancheepuram, Sivaganga, Coimbatore, etc. In the same light, Coimbatore’s Lok Sabha lawmaker AP Nagarajan was also removed from his post. AIADMK has also been in the news for more reasons than the expulsion of its current office-holders. The party’s former MLA P. Andivel was found dead in his farmhouse at Thanneerpandhampatti on Wednesday as well. The cause of death has been cited as mysterious circumstances.

AIADMK has been trying to uproot any disloyal weeds in the party’s makeup. The expelled officers include former secretary G. Ravichandran, deputy president C. Velayutham, literature wing treasurer S.V. Devaraj,  minority wing joint secretary P. Naseer Ahmed, Tasmac Anna, trade union joint secretary J. Sivakumar, and youth wing treasurer R. Palani. The party might be undergoing a restructuring that has been long overdue. Moreover, there has been a promise from K.A. Sengottaiyan, Tamil Nadu’s School Education minister that jobs will be given only to those referred by AIADMK. The sacking of various party workers and office-bearers is not a new move for AIADMK which can be charted over the course of 2017.
