The battle for power prevailing in the Tamil Nadu politics has now reached to a higher level. After the merger of both the EPS and OPS faction of AIADMK on Tuesday in the general council meeting convened by the Chief Minister E Palaniswamy, the party decided to remove VK Sasikala from the post of the general secretary. She was not only removed from the post but also expelled from the party. Also, the decisions taken by Sasikala will no longer be applicable. Around 2000 members of the AIADMK general council attended the meeting 2000 members of the AIADMK general council.

The proposal was passed at the meeting of the general council led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswamy and Deputy Chief Minister O Pannerselvam. After the proposal was approved it also became clear that TTV Dhinakaran will also no longer hold any post in the party as he was appointed as the Deputy Secretary General by Sasikala.

According to a senior leader of AIADMK, it was also decided in the General Council meeting that AIADMK will no longer hold any Interim Secretary General post. Panneerselvam is made the head of the coordination committee while Palaniswamy is the co-coordinator of the party. Since now both the factions of the party have become one and in this case, AIADMK will go to the Election Commission and re-claim their election symbol “two leaves”.

During the meeting, it was also decided that the late Chief Minister Jayalalitha will remain the permanent general secretary of the party. All the officers appointed by Jayalalithaa will remain in their respective posts. Along with Shashikala, Dhinakaran has also been sacked and now none of his declarations will be valid for the party. Dhinkaran, deposed by his dismissal, has challenged Chief Minister E Palaniswamy and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneeselvam to dare to contest the elections if they have the support of party workers. At the same time, he also threatened to demolish the Tamil Nadu government.

However, Dhinakaran strongly criticising the decision of AIADMK said that this is the betrayal of Chinaamma (Sasikala). The man who was made the CM by Sasikala has betrayed the trust of the people. He claimed that he was the chosen one by Jayalalithaa to rule Tamil Nadu. He also challenged the CM and Deputy CMto face the elections if they are confident about the support of their party workers and the people.

Dhinakaran urged to bring back the rule of Amma and said that for this the fight is prevailing between Dhinakaran faction and DMK. He also assured that all the 21 MLAs in his faction will vote against the CM during the floor test forcing Palaniswamy to vacant the seat.

Meanwhile, the main opposition party DMK also criticised this decision of AIADMK. DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan said that the ruling party lacked governance and told that there was no watchman in the state. DMK also moved to Madaras High court on Tuesday seeking a floor test against the E Palaniswamy-led AIADMK government and the court has set 10 Oct as the date to hear pleas. DMK Chief MK Stalin had given a written petition demanding the floor test and had also warned that if the Governor does not take any actions at the earliest, the party will move to court and so has it done.

BJP had played a major role in merging the EPS and OPS factions. Since now Sasikala along with Dhinakaran are expelled, which was the main demand of the OPS faction for the merger, the thing seems to be getting back to normal again. It is also being speculated that soon AIADMK may form a coalition with BJP and become a part of the ruling NDA. The alliance between AIADMK and BJP will be much beneficial for the latter. The tactful move played by BJP of announcing Venkaiah Naidu as its vice presidential candidate is now giving results. By doing this BJP has been successful in establishing its footprints in the southern politic, which was lacking earlier and Modi-Shah’s dream of colouring India saffron is slowly by steadily moving towards an achievement.

AIADMK is the third largest party in the country after BJP and Congress. There are a total of 50 MPs in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and these figures will strengthen the BJP if both the parties happen to form an alliance.
