Asaduddin Owaisi‘s All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Wednesday picked its new MP Imtiaz Jaleel as its new President for the Maharashtra months before the assembly polls in the state. The State Polls for the 248-member assembly is slated for October-November this year.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, AIMIM General Secretary Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri announced Ahmed Jaleel’s appointment for the new post. He further added that Shaker Patni will continue to be party president for Mumbai.

The party, in a bid to expand its footprints in Maharashtra, has also appointed three regional presidents for the State. The party picked Aqueel Mujawar to lead the party in Western Maharashtra while Nazim Sheikh and Feroz Lala have been given the charge of Vidarbha and Marathwada region.

It should be noted that Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM in the national polls expanded its footprints outside Hyderabad. The Hyderabad headquartered party managed to score in Aurangabad Lok Sabha Seat of Maharashtra.

AIMIM’s Imtiaz Jaleel, a Journalist-turned-politician, trounced the sitting four-time Shiv Sena Senior leader Chandrakant Khaire. Jaleel was an MLA who was elected in 2014 Maharashtra State Polls from Aurangabad Central Assembly Seat on AIMIM Ticket.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) party contested the polls in Maharashtra by stitching an alliance with Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi and formed Bahujan Vikas Aghadi Front.

‘Thanks Owaisi sahab for appointing me as the Maharashtra state president of AIMIM. Great responsibility. Hope I live up to expectations’, said Imtiaz Jaleel on Wednesday after his appointment.
