Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) Chief Ajay Maken on Friday early morning announces his resignation from the top post in the state. Maken who met Congress President Rahul Gandhi Thursday night took to Twitter to announce his resignation. Former Congress on twitter said, ” After the 2015 assembly election, in the past four years as Delhi Congress resident, I received immense love and support from Rahul Gandhi, workers and the media. It was not easy in these difficult circumstances. I am grateful,” in Hindi.

Those Familiar with the development claimed that the Rahul Gandhi has accepted his resignation. Sources suggest that he might be given responsibility at Central Leadership ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2019. However, He is believed to have given health reasons for resigning.

Maken, two-time parliamentarian and former Union Minister took over Congress Charge in the state after its poor show in 2015 State Polls. Maken, 54, at that time, replaced Arvinder Singh Lovely as the State Chief.

There were reports of him resigning as the top post in September 2018. However, Congress then later rejected those reports and said he has gone abroad for his health issues.

Back in 2017, Ajay Maken had submitted his resignation to former party president, Sonia Gandhi after a poor performance of Congress in Delhi Civic Polls. However, on the request of Mr. Rahul Gandhi who was the party Vice-President then, he revoked his resignation.

Maken reportedly has a difference of opinion with the Central Leadership over the issue of alliance with the Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party. According to sources, the top leadership of two parties is keen to have an alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. But Delhi State Congress don’t want as they feared that it will reduce the party in the state vis-a-vis assembly polls.

Earlier on December 15, Sheila Dixit reportedly said that she is ready to take responsibility as the party Chief in the national capital. Dikshit, three-time Chief Minister said that she can assume the responsibility as PCC Chief in place of Ajay Maken According to a report published in English news daily, the former Delhi CM said that if the high command of the party asks her to lead the Congress party at the capital, then she will not shy away from taking the responsibility.
