In a run-up to the general elections 2019, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday filed his nominations for Azamgarh Parliamentary Seat. Currently, the Azamgarh Lok Sabha Seat is held by party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Mulayam Singh had on 2014 contesting on two seats won Azamgarh and Mainpuri Parliamentary Seat. Akhilesh Yadav in a run-up to the national elections 2019 will be taking on BJP‘s Dinesh Lal Yadav alias Niruaha. Congress left the seat to avoid division of anti-BJP votes.

Being UP CM, Akhilesh Yadav had not contested 2014 General Elections. Yadav had in past represented Kannauj Lok Sabha Seat three times from 2000 to 2012.

Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav had on April 6 filed her nomination from Kannauj Lok Sabha Seat.

Dimple Yadav first contested the Lok Sabha Polls in 2009 and lost to Congress’ Raj Babbar from Firozabad Parliamentary seat. However, In 2012 By-polls she elected to Lok Sabha from Kannauj after her husband Akhilesh left the seat after being appointed as the Chief Minister of the state.

Samajwadi Party who has forged an alliance with BSP-RLD has so far declared candidates on over 30 seats out of 37 seats allotted to it in a poll pact. Under the poll pact, BSP has kept a lion share of 38 seats while three seats been offered to Ajit Singh’s RLD.

BSP-SP combine in the state will take on BJP and Congress. BJP has taken Apna Dal(S), Nishad Party into its fold while Congress has also managed to ink poll tie-up with Mahan Dal, Apna Dal faction, Jan Adhikar Rally, others.

80 seats of the state will go to polls in all seven phases starting from April 11 till May 19. While Azamgarh parliamentary seat will go to polls on May 12.

The Lok Sabha Seats of – Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Kairana, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and Bijnor have already voted on April 11. While other Others 8 seats of the state is voting today as a part of the Phase-II voting.

Counting of votes will take place on May 23, four days after the final round of Polling.
