Amar Singh, an ex-stalwart of Samajwadi Party has been offered Lok Sabha ticket from the Azamgarh constituency by Bharatiya Janata Party ally Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) to contest in the 2019 general elections.

Singh has been in the limelight for his bittersweet relations with the SP. The interesting part is that SP founder and senior leader Mulayam Singh Yadav is the current MP from Azamgarh constituency, who defeated BJP leader Ramakant Yadav in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

On Tuesday SBSP chief told media in Varanasi, “Amar Singh is a big leader, if he wishes to contest the 2019 polls from Azamgarh, and if the seat comes to our quota, we would gladly offer it to him. Also, SBSP’s doors are always open for him. However, the sharing of seats among NDA partners is yet to be decided.”

Earlier this month, Amar Singh also met UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath. He was also present in Lucknow where PM Modi in a function scorned at opposition’s accusation of Modi’s proximity to industrialists. The PM said, “Amar Singh Ji is present here and he knows most of the dealings between the industrialists and politicians.”

Amar Singh, banished from SP has kept away from politics for some time. Recently, he has given statements supporting PM Modi and UP CM Adityanath favouring them over SP and BSP in the state. On Monday, He also criticised the BSP and SP and termed them “casteist”.

Singh said, “I believe in politics of sanity and sensitivity…There is no Congress in UP. It is a fringe player. The SP and BSP are the two sides of the same coin.”
