Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday met the Union Minister of consumer affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan in the national capital and discussed the issue of Rs 31,000 food account loan.

Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan accepted the request of Punjab Chief Minister to hold a joint meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the issue.

‘Met with ji to discuss various issues of importance, including the creation of additional storage space for food grains. Concerned over the ₹31,000 crore food account loan issue, Hon’ble Minister has accepted my suggestion for a joint meeting with FM ji’, tweeted Punjab Chief Minister after meeting the Union Minister.

Union Minister also gave its nod to create additional storage capacity to Punjab to deal with the problem of shortage of storage in the Rabi season. Punjab Chief Minister in the meeting also raised the issued of Rs. 31,000 crore food account loan issue which had already been referred to a special committee headed by NITI Aayog Ramesh Chand.

While earlier in the day, he also met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and discussed the development of roads & highways in Punjab. ‘Took up the issue of MSMEs which play a crucial role in providing employment opportunities & industrialization of rural areas. Hon’ble Minister has assured of expedited action on both fronts’, Punjab Chief Minister said in a tweet.

He also called on the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed the issue of constructing an overbridge on Ravi for Kartarpur Corridor. He also urged for a National Drugs Policy.
