Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday rejected reports about Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh contesting from Amritsar Parliamentary Seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls. He said Manmohan Singh was never reckoning to be a candidate from Amritsar Lok Sabha Seat in the upcoming General Elections 2019. ‘He (Manmohan Singh) had told us a long time ago that he is not interested in contesting’ added Punjab Chief Minister.

He had last week held meeting with Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Sunday following which reports claimed that later may contest Lok Sabha Polls from Amritsar parliamentary seat.
Amarinder Singh also rejected to form an alliance with Aam Aadmi Party which has a relatively good presence in the state. Punjab Chief Minister said ‘there will be an alliance with AAP in Punjab: Nothing at all. We have no alliance with Kejriwal or with anybody. We will contest on our own and win’
His remarks came hours after Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi said that his party is in talks with a rebel group of Shiromani Akali Dal to form an alliance in Punjab for Lok Sabha Polls 2019.
Asserting that his Party will do well in upcoming Parliamentary Elections, He said the party has chosen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s turf – Ahmedabad – for its Working Committee meeting – which is a clear indication about the confidence of the Congress.
Responding to the question about the party’s Candidate Selection process, Chief Minister said that party will soon hold a meeting in Delhi to finalize things.
Congress principle opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has already announced its poll alliance with Bhartiya Janta Party, with Saffron Party will contest on 3 Lok Sabha Seats while Shiromani Akali Dal will field its candidates on remaining 10 Lok Sabha Seats. Punjab has a total of 13 Lok Sabha Seats.
Election Commission had on Sunday declared schedule for General Elections 2019. General Elections are slated for April-May this year that would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Counting of Votes and Results for the mega Battle of ballots will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting.
Punjab will poll in a single phase on May 19.
In 2014 General Elections, BJP-SAD combine won 6 Lok Sabha Seats with BJP emerged victorious on 2 seats while SAD on 4. Congress who suffered major setback across the nation managed to win 3 Lok Sabha Seats in Punjab while debutant Aam Aadmi Party bagged 4 Lok Sabha Seats in 2014 General Elections.
