The Delhi ruling Aam Aadmi Party on last weekend announced the names of two candidates for Punjab for the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019. The AAP which has in 2014 General elections bagged 4 seats in the state has however not made any announcement whether it will contest on all seats or not.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led party for the mega battle of ballots named Candidates from Patiala and Ferozepur Parliamentary Seat. The party has fielded Neena Mittal from Patiala while Harjinder Singh alias Kaka Sran has been named by the party to be electoral fray Ferozepur Lok Sabha Seat.

Party nominee from Patiala Neena Mittal, a party volunteer who is associated with the party since 2013 will take on Shiromani Akali Dal’s Surjit Singh Rakhra and Congress Candidate former Union minister of state for external affairs Preneet Kaur in the mega polls 2019. Apart from two major parties, Mittal will also be facing Punjab Democratic Alliance candidate MP Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi.

It is noteworthy that Dharamveer Singh Gandhi had in 2014 won the Patiala Lok Sabha seat contesting on AAP ticket. However, amidst differences, he later quit the party and floated his own.

Neena Mittal had in 2014 campaign for the AAP the then-nominee Gandhi.  She is the vice president of AAP women’s wing in the state.

While for Ferozabad Parliamentary Seat, the Delhi ruling party has named Harjinder Singh alias Kaka Sran. Singh is a graduate and a farmer by profession. He has been associated with AAP since 2011 Anna Movement. Singh after being named as the party candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls thanked party leadership.

While other parties are yet to announce their candidate on the Ferozpur Parliamentary Seat. Akali Dal’s Sher Singh Ghubaya won the seat in 2014 General Elections.

Aam Aadmi Party had in 2014 General Elections won the Lok Sabha Seats of Sangrur, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has already announced its poll alliance with Bhartiya Janta Party, with BJP will contest on 3 Lok Sabha Seats while Shiromani Akali Dal will field its candidates on remaining 10 Lok Sabha Seats. Punjab has a total of 13 Lok Sabha Seats.

General Elections are slated to begin from April 11 and would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Counting of Votes and Results for the mega Battle of ballots will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting.

Punjab for its 13 Parliamentary seats will poll in a single phase on May 19 four days ahead of counting.

In 2014 General Elections, BJP-SAD combine won 6 Lok Sabha Seats with BJP emerged victorious on 2 seats while SAD on 4. Congress who suffered major setback across the nation managed to win 3 Lok Sabha Seats in Punjab while debutant Aam Aadmi Party bagged 4 Lok Sabha Seats.
