Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah in a function held on Sunday, where he renamed the Mughalsarai Junction to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, challenged the opposition parties to win Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming 2019 general elections.

Shah boasted that BJP along with its allies will win 74 seats out of 80 in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls; it won 73 seats in 2014 Lok Sabha elections in the Uttar Pradesh.

BJP President said, “If AkhileshMayawati [the leaders of the SP and the BSP] come together, even if Congress supports them, we will not come down to 72 from 73 seats.” He added, “We will instead get 74 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls,” reported India Today.

To lure the Poorvanchal voters, Shah said, “I used to say that till UP does not develop, India won’t. Now I say till my Poorvanchal does not develop, India won’t.” He slammed the former SP and BSP governments saying they did not work for UP and are now envious of the work done by the BJP government.

Shah also spoke on the NRC issue demanding clear stance of the opposition– BSP, SP and the Congress. “Complying with the orders of the Supreme Court, we have brought the NRC. Mamata Banerjee says NRC should not be there. Congress says there is no need for it. For the last four days, I am asking Rahul baba (Congress president Rahul Gandhi) whether NRC should be there or not. Rahul ji is not responding,” accused Shah.

Shah added, “Do the Congress, Samajwadi Party and BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) want Bangladeshi intruders to stay in the country? I know the people of UP don’t want Bangladeshi infiltrators here. Every Bangladeshi infiltrator should be thrown out of the country”, reported Hindustan Times.

BJP President also brought up the issue of the OBC Bill and asked the Congress to take a firm stand on The Constitution (123rd Amendment) Bill, 2017, commonly known as the OBC Bill.

The OBC Bill was passed in the Lower House of the Parliament on August 2 and will now be taken up in the Rajya Sabha. The proposed amendment will grant constitutional status to National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) which will be on par with National Commissions for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Shah challenged, “The Modi government has got the OBC Bill passed in the Lok Sabha. This will go to the Rajya Sabha. Will Rahul Gandhi clear his stand before the country whether his party will help in the passage of the Bill in Rajya Sabha or not? This will make it clear whether the Congress is really for the welfare of backward classes.”

Condemning the BJP government, Congress UP President Raj Babbar said, “We will not say anything on the name change, but the way railway stations and statues are being saffronised clearly shows that BJP is only left with colour politics, rather than concentrating on the development of people”, reported India Today.

“Renaming of the (Mughalsarai) junction is a matter of pride. Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya is a ‘sapoot’ (son) of the railways as his father and maternal uncle worked for the railways,” said Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, the Bharatiya Jan Sangh’s founder member and RSS ideologue was found dead near the Mughalsarai junction station under mysterious circumstances in February 1968.
