Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday inaugurated a two-day conference on capacity building of State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF). The Conference was attended by participants from Civil Defence (CD), Home Guards (HG), and Fire Services.

Speaking in the event that held at the Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi, Shah said, Nationa Disaster Response Force (NDRF) should work with Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) to upgrade the equipment.

Inaugurated the two-day Conference on Capacity Building of SDRFs in Consultation with Home Guards, Civil Defence & Fire Services. Over the years has done an outstanding job. I would like to thank our Disaster Response Forces not just as a minister but also as a citizen’, said Union Minister in a tweet.

Speaking in the event, Shah promised that the Central Government will fulfill all the demands of their departments very soon. He said that all the resources will be provided to all the departments.

Shah did not miss the opportunity to praise PM Modi from the dais. He lauded PM Modi for laying down the stone of Disaster Management Department in Gujarat in 2001 while being the Chief Minister of State.

A terrible earthquake had hit Gujarat in 2001, after that the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation of Disaster Management in Gujarat. It was only after that the Disaster Management Departments were set up across the state’, Union Minister said on Saturday.

While asserting the need to connect with the DRDO for equipment upgradations, Shah said, ‘Everything should match with International Standards. There is a need all the sectors are well equipped than only we can combat any disaster’.

‘Met the brave Disaster Response Teams. Nation is proud of their dedication and commitment, Shah said in another tweet.

Shah further said till now, State Disaster Response Forces have been set up in 24 states across the country on the lines of NDRF. He added that over 11 Lakh people have participated in the 25 drills held across the country.

He added, ‘Nagpur will have soon a larger centre’.
