Amit Shah and CM Siddaramaiah’s clash on twitter is headline-making news in Karnataka. Twitter wars in this time and age amid politics in our country, is not unfamiliar. The battle was petty and childish, and one shouldn’t be surprised. It all starts with Amit Shah’s address in Mysore on 25th January.

Amit Shah’s accusation and Siddaramaiah’s response

During his rally, Amit Shah went ahead and said that the Siddaramaiah government and corruption were synonymous. This without any doubt didn’t sit well with Siddaramaiah. The CM in question lashed back calling Yeddyurappa and Amit Shah, “Ex-jailbirds.” The whole question of corruption itself has turned into a game, while both parties know they’re both guilty of corruption. To what level may still be debatable.

“Siddaramaiah govt has crossed all limits of corruption. In Karnataka, Siddaramaiah and corruption are synonyms. Siddaramaiah means corruption and corruption means Siddaramaiah.”

— Amit Shah (@AmitShah) January 25, 2018

D.V. Sadananda Gowda joined in the fight, adding fuel to fire, “Congress(I) Was Formed By Ex -Jail Bird who Became Ex-Prime Minister of the country for Corruption Her Son Ex-Prime minister would have permanently remained as Jail Bird For Bofors Corruption But sadly your party sponsored terrorism assassinated him ..Need more list, sir,?”

The outcome

The elections in Karnataka have become more about accusations and allegations. Maybe the voter must now sit and tally the accusations against each party and decide on who has the least allegations. This isn’t new for Karnataka and is quite frankly a waste of time on part of the politicians. They should focus on what they can do, on their rallies and their impact. Yeddyurappa’s arrest in 2011, and Mr. Shah’s being taken into custody, in 2010 are not something the people don’t know. What’s the point of playing politics in such a manner?

When it comes to the Mahadayi issue Amit Shah’s silence is definitely questionable. But it isn’t like Congress is moving mountains for the cause. One will have to wait until 4th February and watch for Narendra Modi’s address. Meanwhile, everybody can play the blame game on Twitter to no end. Everybody is guilty pretending to be innocent. It’s time to stop treating the voter like kids. The list of accusations is long but what are they going to do in the future? What do they want to do for Karnataka going forward? Isn’t that’s why we hold elections every five years, for a change?
