BJP party President Amit Shah held a meeting at the Dabolim airport in Goa, last Saturday, which was attended by around 2,500 party workers. The airport operated by Indian Navy and the meeting held there has been an embarrassment for the state unit of the ruling BJP.

A complaint has been filed by a local activist with the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation against Shah and local BJP office bearers, accusing them of flouting law and putting a Defence Ministry installation at risk.

Reacting to this event Goa Congress Secretary, Janardhan Bhandari on Thursday sarcastically commented that he would also use the Dabolim airport as the venue for his wedding reception. He even wrote a letter to the airport authority, Director B.C. Negi. In the letter he mentioned that he has recently been engaged and will soon be married. He wanted to use the airport as the venue for his wedding reception. He even promised to abide by the laws and rules of the airport and will also adjust the dates of the reception as per the availability of the airport.

His letter read, “I am very pleased to inform you that I have been engaged recently, and am planning to get married soon. Since my guests will be coming from various States and landing at Dabolim airport, and as such, I cannot afford to make arrangements for the stay and travel of so many guests, it would be nice if you could permit me to use your airport for my wedding reception in September 2017. I will fix the date as per the availability of the airport as per your convenience.”

Defending Amit Shah and trying to retain the prestige of BJP, the party president of Goa, Vinay Tendulkar said that, it was not a pre planned event and that the airport was not booked as a venue to hold the meeting. He further added that the crowd had just emerged to see and meet the BJP party President Amit Shah.

However Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, wished to remain mute, not giving any comment regarding the embarrassing event.
