Congress releases first list of candidates in Rajasthan,

Three days before nomination ends for Rajasthan Assembly elections, Congress party has released its first list of candidates on Thursday. The list contains names of 152 candidates out of which include 9 Muslim candidates while two student leaders have also been given the ticket. The women representation is around 12 percent with 18 tickets been given to them.

Women Candidates who got the ticket:

As Rahul Gandhi had promised to include more women candidates in the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan, the party has named 18 women candidates in its first list. The list include names of Dr. Girja Vyas, former minister Naseem Akhtar Insaf, Sona Devi Bawri, Rita Chowdhury, Ganga Devi, Shakuntala Rawat, Mamta Bhupesh, Indira Meena, Manju Meghwal, Shobha Solanki, Divya Maderna, Manisha Panwar, Manjula Devi Raut, Kanta Bheel,Rakhi Gautam and Nirmala Sahariya. The party has also given ticket to Krishna Poonia who is an athlete and has won the Delhi CWG 2010 gold medal in “discuss throw”.

Muslim Candidates:

Congress has given 9 tickets to Muslim candidates out of 152 in the first list. The list contains names of four former MLAs of Congress- NAseem Akhtar, Saleh Mohammad, Ameen Khan and Zakir Hussain. Habibur Rahman who had quit the BJP two days ago has also been named in the list. Other leaders who have been given the ticket are, Ameen Kaghzi, Hakeem Ali, Danish Abrar and Rafeeq Mandelya. The Congress had given 16 tickets to muslim candidates in 2013 assembly elections. However, none of them could win the seat.

Congress exhibits nepotism:

The party has also given tickets to the relatives of as many as 15 leaders which includes Danish Abrar, son of former union minister Abrar Ahmad; Divya Maderna, daughter of Mahipal Maderna; Virendra Chowdhury, son of Narayan Singh; Rafeeq Mandelya, son of Maqbool Mandelya; Kuldeep, son of Hiralal Indora; Prashant, son of Sahdev Sharma; Prashant, son of Dwarka Prasad Bairwa, Ganjendra Singh, son of Gulab Singh; Rita Chowdhury, daughter of Ramnarayan Chowdhury, Ramnarayan, brother of Govind Singh; Vivek, son of Khemraj Katara, Brajendra Singh, son of Shisharam Ola, Mahendra, son of Malkhan Bishnoi, Bharat Singh, son of Jhujhar Singh and Surendra, son of bheekha Bha.

Introduction of student leaders:

Although Congress might be a little partial in distributing tickets to the relatives of leaders, this time it has decided to field two student leaders. Two former student’s union president has been given the ticket- Ramniwas Gawadiya from Parbatsar and Maneesh Yadav from Shahpura.

Congress has cautiously avoided giving tickets to candidates who have lost the elections consecutively for two times. It has also fielded 5 SC ST candidates on general seat.

The state will go to polls on December 7 in single phase.
