After Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded Malegaon accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur from the Bhopal constituency on its ticket for the Lok Sabha election, a wave of accused leaders is thriving in politics. Another accused in Malegaon blast case, Major Ramesh Upadhyaya has filed his nomination on Friday from Ballia Lok Sabha Constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Upadhyaya is a candidate of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha and is contesting his Lok Sabha elections from Ballia Lok Sabah seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Apart from Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Major Ramesh Upadhyaya, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, who was also questioned in Malegaon blast case, has announced that he will be contesting from Mirzapur Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.

The three accused in the Malegaon Blast case that took place in September 2008, have various charges under various sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for terrorism and are currently in custody out on the bail.

Pragya Singh Thakur is contesting from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on BJP ticket against Congress leader Digvijay Singh.

Major Ramesh Upadhyaya will be contesting against BJP’s Virendra Singh Mast in the Ballia constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Sudhakar Chaturvedi, an independent candidate will be challenging Union Minister and Apna Dal leader Anupriya Patel in Mirzapur.

Pragya Singh Thakur’s lawyer has defended the accused saying that “there is nothing wrong in contesting the elections as the Indian Constitution provides the provisions for the person on bail.”

Madhya Pradesh is set to go to Lok Sabha polls in the four phases of elections on April 29, May 6, May 12, and May 19.

Uttar Pradesh has witnessed three phases of polling on April 11, April 18, and April 23. the remaining four phases will go to polls on April 29, May 6, May 12, and May 19.

The results for the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on May 23.
