Once again the Patidar agitation spearhead Hardik Patel is in the headlines, clearly indicating that as the Gujarat assembly polls are nearing the political parties have rather become more than active.

On 25 Oct a non-bailable warrant was issued against Hardik Patel and Lalji Patel who heads the Sardar Patel Group. Early in the morning on Wednesday, Hardik Patel was splashing on the television screens as the CCTV footage of the Umeed hotel was leaked on all the mainstream and local Gujarati media channels, claiming that the  Patidar leader had met Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi. Although Patel denies any such meeting and also claimed that he file a case against the hotel for leaking the CCTV footage.

Responding to the arrest warrant issued, Patel said that, it did not affect him, instead it would build up problems for BJP if he goes behind the bars. In a statement to the press, Patel said that “I want them to arrest me. Let them come and arrest me. Once they put me behind bars, it will be fun. It works in my favour if they come after me.”

The warrant has been issued by Visnagar Sessions court in connection with the allegation of sacking the BJP MLA Rishikesh Patel’s office. In 2016, while Rishikesh Patel’s car was passing through ITI Circle in Mehsana’s Visnagar city, stones were pelted at his car.

The recent course of events seems to be indicating that since Hardik is adamant on his motive of defeating BJP in Gujarat, it seems like the ruling party is getting nervous day by day as the elections are nearing.

Gujarat will contest the assembly elections in two phases, the first phase on 9 Dec and the second phase on 15 Dec.
