Supporting the abrogation of Article 370, Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda urged the government to act in a responsible manner for ensuring peace. His comments come at a time when the Congress faction is appearing to be in a division over Article 370 repeal.

Deepender Singh Hooda told that the Article imposed at Nehru’s time was temporary and now is the right time to repeal it, for the development of Kashmir.

Deepender Singh Hooda also advised the ruling government to include all mainstream parties in the discussion process. He urged the government to take strong steps in this direction.

Congress Working Committee member Deepender Singh Hooda had earlier expressed his support in favor of the government’s decision. He said that archaic provisions like Article 370 do not carry validity in the new age of the 21st century. Though he advised the government to execute their decision in such manner that it does not cost the peace of the state and its people.

After the Centre introduced the Bill in the house to revoke Article 370, Congress leaders began to take different stands. While senior leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad opposed the bill vehemently, the younger section of Congress leadership lauded the government’s move.

Other Congress leaders were also seen toeing the same line as of Deepnder Singh Hooda against the party’s stand. Uttar Pradesh Congress MLA Aditi Singh and Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia also hailed the decision of scrapping Article 370. Senior leaders have condemned this division and Ghulam Nabi Azad called onto members following the party ideology.
