Rajasthan Congress leadership

Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot in a joint press conference on Wednesday revealed that both of them will be contesting the upcoming December 7 assembly elections in Rajasthan.

The news comes in the midst of rumors that the two leaders have a tiff on who would be the CM of the state if the party wins.

Former CM of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot told the reporters, “Both, I and Sachin Pilot will fight the Rajasthan assembly elections”.

Rubbishing the claims of any tussle in the party, Gehlot said, “The reports of infighting in the Rajasthan Congress are baseless and spread by the BJP. We are unitedly fighting the assembly elections”.

Sachin Pilot further said, “On Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s instruction and on Gehlotji‘s request, I have decided to contest the assembly elections”.

Both Gehlot and Pilot are seen as the main candidates for chief minister in the Congress, which has high hopes of winning the assembly elections this year.

The party was earlier seen to be avoiding fielding both the candidates to not create any infighting in the party.

Some members of the Congress suggested that both leaders should stay out of the contest and rather focus on campaigning across the state as they connect well with the masses.

However, few of the others believe that Ashok Gehlot should contest from his seat- Sardarpura and Sachin Pilot from a seat in Ajmer – his old parliamentary constituency – or Dausa, from where his father was an MP.

At the Conference another major announcement was made which was the joining of BJP MP Harish Meena to the Congress party. He was elected the MP of saffron party from Dausa in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.
