Samajwadi party President Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday has declared that he will hold talks of alliance with Mayawati as Congress has kept them waiting.

“Congress has made us wait for long. We will hold talks with BSP,” Akhilesh Yadav was quoted as saying by ANI.

Earlier this week, Mayawati clearly denied of forming an alliance with the Congress in the upcoming Assembly polls in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Congress was caught off guard with Mayawati’s decision as the talk of an alliance was still on between the two parties.

“We will fight elections in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and speak to the Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) and the BSP for an alliance in the two states. The Congress has made us wait for long. We can’t wait anymore. We are already in touch with the GGP for an alliance in Chhattisgarh. We will do the same for MP,” SP chief Akhilesh Yadav told media persons on Saturday.

Defending BSP on an accusation by Congress leader Digvijaya Singh that the BSP was not aligning with the Congress against the BJP because it feared Central Bureau of Investigation, he said that parties like the SP and BSP were not scared of anything.

This move by SP too is a shocker for Congress as Madhya Pradesh Congress unit chief Kamal Nath had said that the party is already in touch with Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav for an alliance.

Earlier, he had urged Congress to decide on a deal quickly but it seems that BSP’s exit changed the SP chief’s mind.

On being asked if SP would support Congress president Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister if a Congress-led alliance won 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he said this was irrelevant as of now.

The former UP chief minister also said that he is just concerned in voting BJP out of power. Regarding the ongoing affairs in his state, he stated BJP is not doing anything in the state and accused the government of misusing the institutions.

The Election Commission on Friday announced poll dates in the poll-bound states; Madhya Pradesh will have voting on November 28 while Rajasthan will vote on December 7.
