Rahul Gandhi in Amethi

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday visited his erstwhile Lok Sabha constituency Amethi. This was Rahul Gandhi’s maiden visit to Family bastion after facing a crushing defeat in the national polls 2019. Speaking in the event, Gandhi assured party workers that he is available for Amethi even if it needs him at 4 am.

Addressing party workers in his erstwhile Lok Sabha constituency, Former Congress President said, ‘Now I am an MP from Kerela’s Wayanad, I have to devote my time to Wayanad but that does not mean I will not come here in Amethi. I have an old relationship with Amethi, I have been MP from the place for the last 15 years, I am available for Amethi whenever it needs me, even at 4 am in the morning’.

I will never Amethi as he has a personal relationship with the place and not political’, he said while adding that winning and losing is a part of political life’.

‘I am very happy to come to Amethi. Amethi feels like coming home’, he later said in a tweet.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi received a sweet welcome in the form of tradition Jalebis. Congress leader Akhilesh Pratap Singh shared a picture of a youth offering Jalebis to Rahul Gandhi.

Former Congress Chief also met the party workers and urged them to be prepared for a long battle.

While earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi also visited the home of Congress worker Ganga Prasad Gupta who had died recently and offered condolences to his family in Gauriganj.

Rahul Gandhi was welcomed by senior UPCC President Raj Babbar and former MP Pramod Tiwari at the Airport.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi thanked all his followers on Twitter as he reached the 10 Million mark on the social networking site. ’10 Million Twitter followers – thank you to each and every one of you! I will celebrate the milestone in Amethi, where I will be meeting our Congress workers & supporters today’, Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet on Wednesday.

His visit came days after he officially step down from Congress President Post saying that he is responsible for the loss of the 2019 elections.

Rahul Gandhi won the Lok Sabha Polls with a heavy margin of over 4.30 Lakh votes from Wayanad Lok Sabha Seat. He defeated his opponent PP Sunner of CPI-M in the recently held national polls. However, Gandhi lost its stronghold Amethi by 55,000 votes by BJP‘Smriti Irani.

Rahul Gandhi has entered the Lok Sabha for the First time in 2004 contesting from  Amethi Lok Sabha Seat. Amethi in the past has been represented by Sonia Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and Sanjay Gandhi. Barring 1977, and 1998, Amethi, before 2019, had always elected a Congress Nominee.
