Mukul Roy Bengal

Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislator Mukul Roy, who joined BJP just last year, has been appointed as the chief of one of the state party leadership’s panels to organize upcoming panchayat elections in West Bengal.

Bengal BJP general secretary Sayantan Basu declared that Roy will be in charge of BJP’s panchayat elections committee as its convener, while former MLA Shamik Bhattacharya will be co-convener for this task.

The party is hoping the Roy will use his organization skills extensively to ensure that the right candidates and campaign styles are chosen for Bengal’s panchayat elections, the dates of which have not been announced yet.

Roy used to be the second-in-command in Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s TMC party before he defected to BJP last year. Apart from getting important responsibilities in the state leadership’s duties, some media reports are suggesting that Roy could also be sent to Rajya Sabha by BJP during the upcoming Upper House elections next month.
