Chattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday announced that they will skip the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi slated for May 30. Both the Chief Ministers said that they are busy with their prior engagements.

Chattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that he have sought time from PMO to meet him later. Baghel in a tweet said, ‘I am not able to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the prime minister due to predetermined programmes in Bastar yesterday. I wish the Prime Minister all the best. I have asked the Prime Minister’s office to meet later’.

While Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who had earlier in the day took oath for consecutive fifth term said that he will be busy with the swearing-in ceremony of his cabinet ministers.

In an official statement, Naveen Patnaik congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the second term. The statement added, ‘ The newly elected MLAs of the 16th Vidhan Sabha will take oath on May 30, As a Leader of the house, CM has to remain present in the occassion. Hence, CM Patnaik is unable to attend the swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi and his council of Ministers’.

While earlier in the day, PM Narendra Modi congratulated Naveen Patnaik for taking oath for fifth consecutive term in Odisha.

PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter and congratulated Patnaik for another term as Chief Minister. ‘Congratulations to Naveen Patnaik ji on taking oath as Odisha’s Chief Minister. Best wishes to him and his team in fulfilling the people’s aspirations. I assure complete cooperation from the Centre in working for Odisha’s progress’, said PM Modi in a tweet.

Reportedly BJD had invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the swearing in ceremony. However, Narendra Modi could not attend the ceremony.

While West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who had earlier said to attend the ceremony, on Wednesday does U-Turn. Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said that the oath-taking ceremony is an august occasion to celebrate democracy, not one that should be devalued by any political party.

In a tweet, She added, ‘It was my plan to attend oath-taking ceremony, however in past one hour, I am seeing media reports that the BJP is claiming 54 people have been killed in political violence in Bengal. This is untrue. I am compelled not to attend the ceremony’.

West Bengal Chief Minister had a bitter spat with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the campaign of the national polls 2019.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party, on May 23 scripted history by bagging 303 seats on its own in the recently concluded national polls. Along with its allies, it took its tally to 352 Lok Sabha Seats out of 542 Seats were national polls held in April-May in seven phases.

Narendra Modi is slated to take oath as Prime Minister for second term on May 30 along with his Council of Ministers.

Narendra Modi was elected as Leader of the NDA on Saturday in a mega function in Central Hall of Parliament. Later he met President Ram Nath Kovind and stake claim to form new government at Centre.
