The Bihar Cabinet on Friday has approved the Centre’s scheme of 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker general candidates in government jobs and educational institutions in the state.

The Bihar Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also passed 58 agendas placed before it. The state government would now table a new bill regarding the implementation of EWS quota in the coming budget session.
The state government has decided to follow the Central government model of 10 per cent EWS quota for general category people having less than Rs 8 lakh annual income.
JD (U) spokesperson Sanjay Singh said speaking on the development said, “The state cabinet, by giving a nod to EWS quota implementation, has reiterated its commitment towards the poor among upper castes. The state government has already been giving education scheme benefits to the poor among upper castes having an annual income of less than Rs 1.5 lakh in wake of state upper caste commission recommendations,” he added.
Earlier, Bihar advocate general Lalit Kishore said that the government discussed the legality of the of EWS quota and have taken a decision in favour of tabling a bill to make it legally sound.
