The ruling BJP government has been well in advance preparing for the forthcoming 2019 General Elections. Recently, NDA has become stronger after Nitish Kumar joined hands with BJP and formed a new government in Bihar with the alliance of JD(U) and BJP.

Nitish was considered as the biggest challenge in the path of ‘Mission-2019’ as he was seen as the opposition face against Modi for future polls. But now both Modi and Nitish being on the same team, the party does not see any major obstacle in their way for now.

With a commendable win in Bihar now the next possible target of the NDA can be Tamil Nadu’s ruling party AIADMK. According to sources, in the first week of August, there is a possibility of a reshuffle in the central ministry and AIADMK can join the NDA. However, the speculation was started when AIADMK supported the candidature of NDA candidate Ramnath Kovind in the presidential election.

Since Jayalalitha’s death, the political situation in Tamil Nadu is not stable and in such scenario, BJP’s support to AIADMK will be beneficial for the party to get back its stability in the state.

AIADMK has earlier also helped BJP to form the government at the Centre. Back in 1999 Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s party had the support of AIADMK to form the alliance at the centre. JDU has also returned to its old role in becoming BJP’s partner and some JDU leaders are also likely to be in the central ministry.

In the near future, BJP is going to some important decision like reshuffle in the central ministry, the appointment of governors and appointment of party office bearers. In such a situation, the decision about the alliance with AIADMK can be expeditious. AIADMK also seems pretty eager to join hands with BJP because its rival DMK has aligned with the Congress. In this case, it will prove to be a bargain deal for both parties.

If AIADMK forms an alliance with BJP, this coalition is likely to benefit the latter. AIADMK was previously counted among the parties to the third front politics and was a key member of the Third Front. The party has a large majority in the south and the third largest party after the BJP and the Congress in the House. Combining both the houses AIADMK has 50 MPs and this obviously shows the party’s potential. The party is in power in Tamil Nadu since last two elections and is the largest party in South India.

BJP is trying its best to establish the party in the South and it will be like an icing on the cake if it gets the support of AIADMK. Along with establishing BJP in the south, this coalition will also make the paths easier for BP to achieve the ‘2019 Mission’. Still, two factions can be seen in the party AIADMK(Amma) and AIADMK (OPS), with both the factions supporting BJP, the alliance of AIADMK and BJP might also result in uniting the two factions of the party. If AIADMK merges to become a single unit rather than two different factions, this will surely change the direction of politic in South India.
