The Odisha ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Sunday filed a complaint will Poll Body against Bharatiya Janata Party for allegedly using phone calls to seek votes in the ‘silent period’ a day before Phase-IV of polling. In a letter to Chief Electoral Officer, Bhubaneswar BJD demanded to immediately stop BJP’s campaigning through voice call during a silent period.

It further demanded to take action against Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and the service provider circulating these voice calls in violation of the model code of conduct.

Biju Janata Dal further stated in the letter, ‘This is an extremely condemnable action by BJP of sending voice calls for election campaigning despite ban/silence being in force. We demand immediate stoppage of the voice calls being made in violation of the Model Code of Conduct and Election Commission Guidelines as well as strict action against BJP and said service provider circulating this violative Voice calls immediately’.

Earlier, on Saturday BJD alleges “distribution of cash among voters” by four associates of Baijayant Panda, BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Kendrapara.

Earlier, Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janta Dal (BJD) on Tuesday last knocked the Poll Body requesting a ban of 7 days on Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party Leader Dharmendra Pradhan. The Odisha ruling party in a letter to the Election Commission accused Pradhan of violating the model code of conduct.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in a run-up to the polls is taking on aggressive Bharatiya Janata Party and Indian National Congress. The Polls in the state is slated for four rounds of Polling starting from April 11 to April 29. The state has already voted for 20 Lok Sabha Seats in the initial three phases of elections.

In the last phase of elections in the state where voting is underway, 9 assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat is voting to elect new representatives.

The State has a total of 147 State Assembly while having 21 Lok Sabha Seats. Currently, BJD has 117 lawmakers in the state assembly and 20 MPs. The Counting of votes for the mega battle of ballots and the State Polls will take place on May 23, four days after last round of polling.
