The area of Kashmir has always been an area of conflict in India however, with the recent turn of events it seems that the tension has had the political leaders of BJP and Congress also have a difference of opinion. Recently congress leader, Ghulam Nabi Azad alleged the centre of their ineffective action in the disputed region of Kashmir. Alleging that the BJP-PDP government that “more civilians than militants” had been killed. Almost two days later, the Union law minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad replied to the allegations of the opposition. He said,

“Has the Congress party fallen to this level? Can there be anything more shameful? Can there be anything more shameful? It is not an off- the-cuff remark. It is a well thought out ideology.”

There is also international pressure of the Sate from the recently published report which claims that more civilians are being killed by the military rather than the militants.Even though at at international lvel both parties have unanimously dismissed the report, the scenario on the domestic front has been very different.

Claiming Azad’s comment as “embarrassing, unfortunate and irresponsible” the BJP leader said that this is morally degrading for the Indian army. “…Is this how you will break the spirit of the Indian army?…” he said.

‘Operation All- Out’ has also been targeted by the Congress leader. He claimed that the joint offensive attack launched by India in 2017 to eliminate the militants was just another ‘full fledged massacre’.

Prasad backed his claim of having a  better environment by stating, “ In Jammu and Kashmir, 72 terrorists were killed in 2012, 67 in 2013. in June 2014, we came to power. 110 were killed in 2014, 108 in 2015, 150 in 2016, 217 in 2017 and 75 have been killed till MAY 2018. So Ghulam Nabi Azad, you can see the difference between your government”

Azad’s comment has been backed by a statement issued by Pakistan based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba stating “We have been of the same opinion of the expressions of Ghulam Nabi AAzAd and others since the beginning. India is up to bringing back the era of Jagmohan by imposing Governor’s rule, s as to sabotage the infrastructure and commit massacre of innocents. It is a move to further intensify the mass killings.”

This has led the Union law minister to state, “ The country will not tolerate it. Even Lashkar-e-Taiba is backing Ghulam Nabi Azad’s comments.”
