Recently Bengal Government led by Mamata Banerjee has been cancelling a lot of events and bookings done well in advance by different political parties.

On Thursday BJP party President Amit Shah said that BJP will move to court against the West Bengal government for deliberately cancelling the bookings done at a state owned facility for a party event in Kolkata. Amit Shah was scheduled to attend a programme at the Netaji Indoor Stadium next week and the party had booked the stadium well in advance. He alleged that this is not the first time that he was being stopped by the Banerjee led government to hold programmes in the state.

“We will go to the court. They (Mamata Banerjee government) have tried several times to stop me and every time the court has granted permission. We hope the court will allow us this time too. The question of democratic values can be expected only from those who believe it,” he said. BJP General Secretary Sayantan Basu said that when the Netaji Indoor Stadium authorities were contacted on 26 Aug, the authorities confirmed the provisional booking and asked to provide a no objection certificate issued by the Kolkata police. But on 30 Aug the authorities said that stadium was booked for the entire month, except for the Durga Puja days between 26-30 September.

Just a few days back a similar incident happened when the booking of the state run auditorium done by RSS for an event to be addressed by Mohan Bhagwat on 3 Oct was cancelled. RSS had condemned this move alleging the Mamata Banerjee government of deliberately doing this and an uproar was created by the RSS regarding the matter. Earlier in January RSS Chief’s rally was denied the permission by the city police but the decision was later over ruled by the High Court. In Dec 2014 also the police had denied the permission to carry forward a rally t be addressed by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, which was also over ruled by the High Court later.

However, the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal denied all the allegations saying that the party had nothing to do with the cancellations of the bookings or with any of its ministers or leaders. The auditorium authorities meanwhile said that the during that time the property would be under renovation and repair work would be undertaken therefore for safety and security reasons the bookings were cancelled.
