Hopes of Narendra Modi led Bhartiya Janta Party might get shatter in Uttar Pradesh vis-a-vis the upcoming Lok Sabha 2019 Polls – the state that sends 80 parliamentarians to the Lok Sabha, the Lower House of the Parliament. The general elections are slated for May 2019.

The India Today-Karvy Insights Mood of the Nation opinion poll predicts that the number of seats held by Modi’s BJP and an ally could be reduced to just 5 from the 73 it won in the last election in 2014 if most of the opposition parties, including the Congress party, team up to take on Modi.

Opinion Poll has also suggested that in case of Congress go alone in the state, BJP and its ally would win 18 seats. While a recently formed alliance between three regional parties – Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal in the state could win 58 seats without Congress joining it, the poll showed. Congress would have its upper hand on 4 seats in that scenario.

A total of 2,478 people were polled in Uttar Pradesh, which has a population of about 220 million, for the survey.

Earlier in December last year, ABP News and CVoter also predicted similar results in Uttar Pradesh. ABP-CVoter Survey: BSP-SP alliance could hit BJP’s chances of a return to power in 2019According to a survey conducted by ABP News- C Voter, if the Samajwadi PartyBahujan Samaj Party forms a pre-poll alliance in a run-up to Lok Sabha Elections 2019, the BJP led NDA will suffer a huge loss to its seat tally. The SP-BSP altogether in Uttar Pradesh will be victorious on whopping 50 seats and the NDA will reduce to 28 seats, with a loss of 43 seats compared to 2014, if Lok Sabha elections were held today claims survey.

It may be recalled that the SP and the Congress had joined hands in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2017, but the alliance failed miserably to take on the BJP. However, Reportedly both the major forces of the State – Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party has tied up for the Lok Sabha Polls 2019. If reports to be believed, The BSP-SP coalition has kept congress away in Uttar Pradesh. As per seat sharing deal, BSP-SP both will field its candidates on 38 each, while leaving Rae Bareli and Amethi – the home turf of Gandhis.
