Reacting to the Kashmir development, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran leader Lal Krishna Advani on Monday called the Centre’s move to scrap Article 370 saying that it is a bold step towards strengthening the national integration.
In a statement, BJP Veteran leader said, ‘I am happy with the government’s decision to revoke Article 370 and I believe that it is a bold step towards strengthing national integration’.
He further congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the historic move. He added that ‘I pray for peace, prosperity, and progress in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.
The scrapping of Article 370 has been part of the party’s core ideology since the days of Jan Sangh.
Soon after the Union Home Minister Amit Shah tabled a resolution to this effect in Rajya Sabha, President Ram Nath Kovind issued a notification – The Constitution (Application to Jammu and Kashmir) Order, 2019, that will come into force immediately.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also moved the Jammu and Kashmir (Reorganization), Bill in the Upper House of the Parliament. The Bill sought the bifurcation of the state into two Union Territory with Jammu and Kashmir having a legislature and while Ladakh without legislature.
