The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday approached the Poll Commission of India with at least four different memorandums. The saffron party through memorandum seeks action against Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee.

‘Congress President in a run-up to the national elections 2019 has been violating the poll code prescribed by the Poll Office’, stated the BJP memorandum. It further alleged that he has violated the poll code by regularly calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a ‘chor’ (thief).

The ruling party in the memorandum quoted six different incidents where Rahul Gandhi had called the PM Modi a thief without any evidence.

Demanding strict action against Congress Chief, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the memorandum raised objections to the speeches.

Apart from this, BJP also submitted a memorandum seeking action against West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee. “Banerjee was trying to intimidate the voters by telling them that they had to stay in the state even after the polls. She also called the ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogan an abuse,” the memorandum said.

It should be noted the Election Commission has so far given green signal to PM Modi in almost 8 cases of alleged model code of conduct.

Congress had moved to the Poll Commission with multiple complaints against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah. However, till now, EC gave 8 clean chits to PM Modi and two such to BJP Chief Amit Shah.

General Elections 2019 is being across seven phases starting April 11 to May 19. The remaining 169 Lok Sabha seats will go to polls in remaining three phases.

Counting of the votes will be held on May 23.
