Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Bangalore South Tejasvi Surya on Wednesday urged the Centre to extend the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Karnataka. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, BJP MP from Bangalore South said that NRC should be extended to Karnataka to weed out the Bangladeshi migrants from the state.

He added that illegal migrants are a threat to national security.

Speaking in the Lower House of the Parliament, the first-time parliamentarian said, ‘Illegal immigrants are a security threat to the state. Yesterday a terror module that operates from Bangladesh was busted in Bengaluru. I call upon the Centre to extend NRC to Karnataka and Bengaluru to weed out Bangladeshis who have come here in our country illegally’.

Further speaking in the House, BJP MP said, ‘A sovereign State must protect the integrity of its border and the interest of all of its citizens “by sending out and deporting an illegal immigrant.”

He further claimed that a huge Bangladeshi Migrants have made Bangalore their home. They are not only snatching jobs from Indians but also a threat to our security. Urging the Home Minister Amit Shah to extend NRC to Karnataka, Surya said ‘Inflow must end now’.

In the national polls, BJP’s Tejashvi Surya defeated BK Hariprasad of Congress from Bengaluru South Lok Sabha Seat.

NRC is a register containing names of Indian citizens, which was prepared for the first time in 1951 and is being updated only for Assam to remove the illegal immigrants.

The first draft of NRC was published during the intervening nights of December 31, 2017, and January 1, 2018, containing 1.9 crore names. The final draft of the NRC for Assam which was published on July 30, excluded 40 lakh names and included 2.9 crore people out of the total applications of 3.29 crore.

As per the directions, The NRC is being updated under the monitor of the Supreme Court and the final list will be published on July 31st, 2019.
