Bhartiya Janta Party announced on Thursday that it will soon initiate the process of electing its new President by December this year as the tenure of current President Amit Shah is slated to end in December.

It has been reported that the National elections for various party posts in the saffron party will take place in December, whereas October will see the elections at district and state level. While addressing the media on Thursday, Party’ working President Jagat Prakash Nadda said, “The process is to first hold booth-level elections, then district and state-level elections. Once the process is complete then only elections for the national president will take place. It is scheduled to take place in December.”

Jagat Prakash Nadda was appointed as Party’ working President because Amit Shah was made Union Home Minister under the second term of Modi government. It is also expected that JP Nadda can fill in the shoes of Amit Shah and command the party’s lead.

He also lauded the success of BJP’s recent membership drive. He told reporters that the party has been successful in adding over 5.81 crore members online, and 62 lakh members offline. It has been reported that the saffron party has added seven crores members, which will take the tally of members to 18 crores. Currently, BJP has around 11 crore members. It was the second round of the BJP’s membership drive. The first round was held in 2015, during which its membership strength reached 11 crores.

Expressing his happiness over the massive achievement of the party, JP Nadda told that there exists only 8 countries having more population than the strength of BJP.

BJP began its membership campaign on 6 July on Shyama Prasad Mookherjee’s birth anniversary. The program’s deadline was 11 August but owing to the massive success of the drive, the window to enroll was increased up to 20 August. The event was unfurled at Varanasi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Recently, BJP also elected election in-charges for various forthcoming assembly polls and the party can be seen working extensively for the upcoming elections in Haryana, Delhi, Jharkhand, and other states.
