Gujarat is going to polls in two phases on 9 and 14 Dec and the counting of the votes will be done on 18 Dec. The last date to file the nominations for the first phase is 21 Nov and the for the second phase is 27 Nov.

As the elections are nearing BJP is geared up to finalize its probable candidates from each of the 182 constituencies in Gujarat. Taking no chance to nominate the candidates, BJP has formed a panel of three probable candidates for each constituency based on their report cards.

This decision and forming of the panels was done during a state parliamentary board meeting attended by BJP party President Amit Shah, state BJP in-charge Bhupendra Yadav, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, joint National Secretary V Satish, former chief minister Anandiben Patel.

Amit Shah on 16 Oct, while addressing the “Gujarat Gaurav Mahasammelan” in Gandhinagar had set the target of winning 150 seats. Shah told the party workers to work towards achieving the target of 150 seats and improve the tally of 129 seats won in  2002, under the leadership of the then Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi.

According to the sources, a properly planned procedure was adopted before finalizing 3 probable candidates from each constituency. Each constituency was discussed during the six-day meeting of the state (BJP) parliamentary board headed by Amit Shah t Shantiniketan near Adalaj village in Gandhinagar district.

Before finalizing the candidates, the party had sent observers in each constituency to take an account of the works done by the candidates and their image amongst the people. The sources informed that “The panel of probable candidates for constituencies was formed on the basis of the report of these observers.”

According to the procedure, the 3 names shortlisted for each constituency during the six-day long board meeting will now be sent to the Central Parliamentary Board of the party and then the final list of candidates will be announced.
