Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani on Thursday filed her nomination from Congress home turf Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Ahead of filing nominations, Irani held a massive Roadshow along with UP CM Yogi Adityanath to reach District Collectorate Office.

This will be the second time when Smriti Irani will be taking on Congress President Rahul Gandhi in his stronghold. Earlier in 2014 General Elections, Rahul Gandhi defeated Smriti Irani with over one lakh votes. The Margin of winning that used to be over 2-3 lakhs in past was reduced to just 1 Lakh in previous polls indicated that coming polls will not be a cakewalk for Congress President.

Before filing her nomination, Smriti Irani performed a puja (Prayer) along with her husband Zubin Irani. Smriti Irani recently slammed Rahul Gandhi after Congress President announced to contest from Wayanad as its second seat.

Irani racked up Gandhi and accused him of running away from Amethi.

While Rahul Gandhi who is seeking the fourth term as an MP filed his nominations yesterday. Accompanied by family, Congress President held massive 3 KM Roadshow passing through Munshiganj-Darpipur, Gauriganj to reach District Collectorate Office of Amethi.

Besides Amethi, Rahul Gandhi is also contesting from Kerala’s Wayanad parliamentary constituency. Rahul Gandhi’s mother and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi earlier in the day also filed her nominations.

Polling in 91 constituencies across 20 States and UTs in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections began on Thursday. Voting is underway in 8 Lok Sabha Seats of UP.

Rae Bareli and Amethi both will go to polls on May 6.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh started today and will end on May 19. Counting of votes will be held on May 23.

Counting of votes will take place on May 23, four days after the final round of Polling. Polling in 80 seats of the state will spread across all seven rounds of voting.

Polling in Eight seats of Uttar Pradesh – Meerut, Baghpat, Kairana, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar and Bijnor is currently underway.
