The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday registered a massive victory in the Junagadh Municipal Corporation (JMC) in Gujarat by securing 51 seats in the 60 members civic body. While the Congress could only manage to add one seat in its tally, with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) emerging victorious on 4 seats and has emerged as the second-largest party.

Out of the total 60 seats of Junagadh Municipal Corporation.

The ruling saffron party has improved its tally by adding 7 more seats to win 51 out of 56 seats in the Junagadh Municipal Corporation that went to polls on July 21, results for which were announced Tuesday.

The saffron party, BJP, also won by-elections to a majority of seats in district and taluka panchayats for which elections were held on July 21.

Out of all, three BJP Candidates were declared elected unopposed. The victory of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on 4 seats came to a surprise. While the tally of the Indian National Congress, which had 15 corporators in JMC, has reduced to just one seat.

Congress nominee Manjulaben Pansara became lone candidate saving the grace of the party. It should be noted that Congress setback came after its city president Vinu Amipara resigned to join the Bharatiya Janata Party just before the polls. He joined the Team Saffron along with a large number of party workers.

In previous polls, The BJP had wrest control of the JMC from the Congress in by winning 44 seats.

After the party registered a resounding victory in JMC Polls, PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter and thanked people of Gujarat. Tweeting in Gujarati, PM Modi, said, ‘BJP candidates have registered a grand victory in the election to the Junagadh Municipal Corporation and a by-election to other districts/taluka Panchayats. The people of Gujarat have always trusted the politics of development’.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Amit Shah also congratulated the party for its resounding mandate. ‘Congratulations to the Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Nitin Patel and on the grand victory of BJP in Gujarat local body polls. Heartiest congratulation to the people of Gujarat for constantly reposing faith in the BJP symbolizing development and trust’, said Amit Shah in a tweet.
