The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday registered a massive victory in Tripura three-tier panchayat polls sweeping a majority of the seats in all three levels. Panchayat polls in the state held on July 27 and counting of votes took place on Thursday.

Polling in 6,111 seats of gram panchayat, 419 panchayat Samiti seats and 116 Zilla Parishad seats held on July 27, for which results were announced on Thursday.

In Gram Panchayats, out of total 6111 seats in 591 Panchayats, Bharatiya Janata Party bagged 5916 seats. While in 419 seats of Panchayat Samiti of 35 blocks, BJP emerged victories in 411 seats. 

In 116 seats of Zilla Parishad in 8 districts, Bharatiya Janata Party managed to add 114 seats in its tally. 

The Election Commission had set up over 2300 polling stations for the polls in the state.

Reacting on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s thumping victory, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb thanked voters for showing faith in the party. Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister said, ‘Congratulations Tripura, it’s your win! People of Tripura has once again showed their faith on PM Narendra Modi’s leadership & I would like to thank all dedicated karyakartas (workers) for BJP’s massive victory in Panchayat general elections’, he said in a tweet.

While in another tweet, he shared the number of seats bagged by the saffron party and said the figures ‘says it all’. ‘The figures says it all •In Zilla Parishad Out of total 116 seats in 8 districts #BJP has won 114 •In Panchayat Samiti out of total 419 seats in 35 blocks #BJP has won 411 •In Gram Panchayats out of total 6111 seats in 591 Panchayats #BJP has won 5916 #BJPVictory’, said Chief Minister in a tweet on Thursday. 

In the meantime, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also lauded the efforts of BJP Tripura Unit. PM Modi in a tweet on Friday said, ‘Tripura’s faith in BJP remains unwavering! I thank the people of the state for blessing the party in the Panchayat Elections across the state. The transformative work in Tripura’s rural areas is positively impacting many lives. Kudos to the local unit for the hardwork!’

In another tweet, he added, ‘I would urge BJP Karyakartas from other states to interact with Karyakartas from Tripura. The Party’s repeated successes in the state demonstrate the power of development politics and democratic temperament. It also shows that with the right effort, everything is possible’.
