Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Tuesday said that his party will stake claim to form a government after the coalition government falls. Speaking to media, Joshi said, ‘BJP will stake claim to form a government taking guidance from the central leadership’.

After 4 day-long debate on a Confidence motion, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy led coalition government on Tuesday fell after it suffered a defeat in the floor test of the assembly.

“Chief Minister Kumaraswamy has lost the floor test, as 99 votes were in favor of the confidence motion and 105 against it,” Assembly Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar told the members of the House after the trust vote.

With 20 MLAs defying the party whip and were absent for the floor test, the strength Of the 225-member Karnataka Assembly was reduced to 204 with 103 as the halfway mark for a simple majority.

Soon after the defeat, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy rushed to the Governor Vajubhai Vala and submitted his resignation, which was accepted by him.

Speaking about the 14-month-old coalition government, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi called it an ‘unholy alliance’. ‘By sabotaging the mandate, they formed an unholy alliance and managed to run it for over a year, that itself its a big achievement’.

Earlier, HD Kumaraswamy-led coalition government, on Friday, failed to meet the two deadlines set by the Governor Vajubhai Vala for the Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy to prove the majority in the House. Following which the floor test was scheduled for Monday.

The Supreme Court last week ruled that the 15 rebel MLAs cannot be compelled to take part in the proceedings of the House.

The 13-months old coalition government suffered a huge setback earlier this month when 11 MLAs from CongressJD(S) ruling coalition tendered their resignation. And thereafter political episode and drama started in Karnataka. Following which many more MLAs tendered their resignation.
