BJP‘s Thushar Vellapally demanded re-polling after alleged EVM malfunctioning in Wayanad.

BJP’s Thushar Vellpally alleged EVM malfunctioning in Wayanad. Wayanad, the constituency from Rahul Gandhi is contesting, is in three corner fight with BDJ(S)’ and BJP ally Thushar Vellapally, Rahul Gandhi, CPM’s PP Suneer.

NDA candidate Thushar Vellapally has alleged the malfunctioning of EVMs in Wayanad and written a letter to Chief Election Agent advocate Sunil Kumar saying, “Let me draw your kind attention to an important matter. It is reported from booth number 79-CMS Higher secondary school, Arappad, in Mooppanad panchayath rather than the voting machine is damaged. A vote is not being cast even after pressing twice… please take necessary steps for re-polling as pressing the voting machine twice can make changes in the voting.”

Besides Wayanad faulty EVMs were reported in Chowara in Kollam. After almost 76 dissatisfied voters walked out it was found that the EVMs were subject to malfunctioning. The EVMs were malfunctioning in a sort of way that all the votes cast were cast with the ‘lotus’ symbol. On this Shashi Tharoor questioned as to “there can be technical problems in every machine but how can it only deliver votes for one political party..?” hinting to EVMs being tempered. However BJP state chief Kummanam Rajashekharan ordered a probe into this saying if there exists that sort of fault in the EVM then it must be probed.

Wayanad has approximately 13,25,788 voters. Election results will be out on May 23.
