Just as the British weekly ‘The Economist’ had criticized the action of demonetisation taken by the Modi-government, calling it counterproductive and crippling the legitimate business, it is back again with its criticism on the implementation of GST.

The magazine called the implementation of GST “unnecessarily complicated and bureaucratic, greatly reducing its efficiency”. It also said that Narendra Modi is not that much of a reformer as much as he claims to be. It alleged that the reforms taken up by the Modi government were not of his own ideas and were proposed by previous governments.

The Magazine published these critical comments just ahead of the Modi’s trip to US, where he will be meeting US President Donald Trump. The two leader will be holding discussions about building and straightening the bi lateral ties between the two nation.

Though criticizing Modi, ‘The Economist’ also had a few words of appreciation for the Prime Minister. It said that Modi was far more active and energetic than his predecessor, Manmohan Singh.
