Varanasi, April 30: The Election Commission on Tuesday issued a notice to Tej Bahadur, SP-BSP candidate from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat, for providing incomplete information in his nomination papers.

Former Border Security Force (BSF) personal Tej Bahadur had filed nomination as an independent but was later named by the Samajwadi PartyBahujan Samaj Party alliance as a candidate from the seat. He will be contesting the elections on the SP symbol.

Reportedly, Shalini Yadav has filed her nomination as a supplementary candidate. Earlier the party had on April 22 named Shalini Yadav as its candidate for the Lok Sabha Seat of Varanasi. Shalini Yadav is the daughter-in-law of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Shyam Lal Yadav. She had recently shifted his loyalties from Congress to Samajwadi Party.

However, at the very last moment, the Samajwadi Party made a crucial change. He is pitched against PM Modi from Varanasi Lok Sabha Seat.

In the first nomination papers, Bahadur had said he was sacked from the BSF, but in the nomination papers filed as the SP-BSP candidate, he did not mention that, said District Electoral Officer Surendra Singh.

After the scrutiny of nomination papers on Tuesday, the district electoral office issued a notice asking him to file his reply by May 1, Singh said.

Narendra Modi in a run-up to the national elections 2019 will take on SP’s Tej Bahadur Yadav, a joint candidate of Mahagathbandhan. While Congress has named Ajay Rai from the Lok Sabha Seat.

Modi had in 2014 General elections defeated AAP’Arvind Kejriwal with over 3.80 Lakh votes. Prior to Narendra Modi, BJP Senior Leader Murli Manohar Joshi represented the Varanasi Seat since 2009-2014.

Varanasi Lok Sabha Seat will go to polls on May 19, four days before counting. The last date to file nomination for the polls due for May 19 was April 29.

Modi had on April 26 filed his nominations accompanied with galaxies of leaders from other NDA parties.
