Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati alleged the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) of engaging in electoral malpractices during the conduct of Lok Sabha elections for the first phase.

Mayawati cautioned the Election Commission saying that the voters are rejecting the ruling BJP and thus the party is trying alternative means to gain votes by rigging EVMs, abusing the police and the administration and getting the election staff to register a vote for them.

The BSP supremo urged the Election Commission to take notice of the misconduct by the ruling party. She has asked the EC to take cognizance of BJP’s actions and carry out its “constitutional responsibility’ in a full-fledged manner.

Alleging the ruling party, Mayawati said that when BJP has realized their failure by votes, they are trying to resort to the use of notes in the elections. She tweeted saying that the party has decided to gain victory in the Lok Sabha elections by, “Not by votes but by notes; abuse of police/administration, EVMs rigging.”

She also added, “The election staff wants to win the election by pushing the button with the sticks.”

Mayawati urged the Election Commission to take into consideration the threat to democracy of the country and credibility of the electoral staff while the conduct of elections. She asked the Election Commission to uphold its constitutional responsibility and take cognizance of these misconducts seriously. These measures call for strict actions so that the conduction of the polls in the next six phases is free and fair.

The Lok Sabha Polls have begun from April 11 and will continue till May 19, 2019. The results for the elections will be announced on May 23.
