Bahujan Samaj Party Supremo Mayawati on Wednesday declared that she will not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019 that are slated for April-May this year. Mayawati who has served as the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister for four terms said that instead of Contesting polls, she wants to gear up the poll pedal for Mahagathbandan in Uttar Pradesh.
She further stresses that to become a Prime Minister it is not necessary to contest Lok Sabha Polls, ‘a minister or a prime minister has six months to become a member of the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha’ She said. She added that In 1995, ‘I became the CM of Uttar Pradesh for the first time, though I was not a member of Assembly’

‘When I became UP CM first time in 1995 I was not a member of either UP Assembly or Council. Similarly is provision at the Centre where a person has to be a LS/RS member within 6 months of holding the office of minister/PM. Don’t dishearten from my decision not to contest LS poll now’, She said in a tweet.

Both her partners, Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh and Pawan Kalyan in Andhra Pradesh have endorsed her as the next Prime Minister.
She further claimed that In the need of the Hour, winning each Lok Sabha Constituency is more important than winning my seat’
Bahujan Samaj Party in a run-up to the general elections has entered into a poll pact with Samajwadi Party and RLD in Uttar Pradesh, while Pawan Kalyan‘s Jana Sena Party in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Apart from this, the party has also announced its poll tie-up with Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi party in Uttarakhand, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
However, the party has not declared any candidate for the upcoming Mega battle of ballots. While SP and RLD have started rolling out lists of Candidates for the General Elections 2018. Bhartiya Janta party has also declared candidates on 184 Lok Sabha seats in its first list on Thursday.
General Elections are slated for April-May this year that would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Election Commission had on Sunday declared schedule for General Elections 2019.
The Counting of votes for the mega battle of ballots will take place on May 23, four days after last round of polling.
