Election Commission on Thursday announced the date for assembly elections on 4 assembly constituencies. The by-polls will be held on August 23. The constituencies include Panaji and Valpoi in Goa, Bawana in Delhi and Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh.

The Panaji seat saw Siddharth Kuncalienkar resigning from his post in order to give a chance to Manohar Parrikar. Manohar Parrikar is still not an MLA and he needs to win as an MLA or MLC in order to hold the chief minister’s post. According to election commission rules, any member of the government needs to prove his status within 6 months of oath taking.

On Valpoi constituency, Congress MLA Vishwajeet Rane resigned to join BJP. Bawana saw sitting MP Ved Prakash resigning to join BJP and at the same time, Nandyal seat is undergoing by-polls after the TDP MLA passed away due to a cardiac arrest.

The election commission will release a notification regarding the elections on 29 July. August 5th has been decided as the last date for filing the nominations and the results will be announced on 28 August. Candidates can withdraw their names from the electoral till 9th August.
